A little update from the nurseries:
Thank you for all the kind donations into our Autumn food bank, this has been delivered to The Hope Centre in Northampton.
The Northampton Hope Centre tackles poverty and homelessness and works to help people by giving them practical support and services that will enable them to take back control of their own lives.
Our nursery in Wing sent home brown bags for every child to collect some Autumnal treasures from their walks at the weekends with parents and family members. The children have then bought their bags back in and we have spoken about what they found, where they found it and what they wanted to make/do with their treasures. The children have developed their understanding of Autumn and we have acknowledged what happens to the weather in this season. Autumn and Halloween crafts with the children have also begun.
Our Dagenham nursery has taken inspiration from the Three Little Pigs, looking at different resources to build houses with. They have been lucky enough to be able to visit the building development next door, who provided us with PPE for the children and let them see how houses are built.
Introducing Autumn through play
In some of our nurseries, we have used conkers to support mathematics in our pre-school rooms. Autumnal tuff trays have also been used for the babies, allowing them to explore different shapes and textures.
We have introduced pumpkins in our small world areas across our nurseries. They were used as tunnels and houses for the transport and figures. The children placed sticks and pinecones on the train track as debris and used string and toy trucks to pull it off, supporting their communication skills and imaginative play.
At our Swanbourne nursery, whilst collecting pinecones at the allotment, they were joined by two horses, and on Monday they harvested their tomatoes! The children also built a campfire in the allotment to go alongside their story or the week Mama Panya’s pancakes by Mary and Rich Chamberlin.
The children also celebrated World Animal Day last month. They spoke about different animals and where those animals live. We also encouraged our children to move in the same way as the animals and pretend to be them.
